Govardhan, near Mathura, is a popular pilgrimage destination for the Hindus. There are several legends of Lord Krishna associated with the place with one which says that the peak came down from heaven to be a part of the divine leela of Lord Krishna. Another legend has it that once during torrential rains, the lord saved the people of Vraj by lifting the mountain and holding it with his hands for seven consecutive days.

The main attraction is the Har Devaji Temple dedicated to Lord Krishna. The temple houses beautiful statues of Radha and Krishna and brings to life the anecdotes from his life. You can also visit Radha Kund or lake where Radha and Krishna would meet with the gopis. Then there is Kusum Sarovar, the sacred tank where the gopis would await Lord Krishna. The Manasi Ganga tank is another landmark associated with the lord.

The best time to visit is from November to March. The weather during this period is mild and pleasant. However, being a pilgrimage place, Govardhan attracts visitors throughout the year.
