Colva - A Photographer's Delight!

The famous Colva Beach is located in the South Goa district. Unlike the beaches of North Goa, Colva is relatively quiet and is a photographer’s playground given its pristine white sand. Measuring in at 24 km, Colva is also one of the longest beaches in the world.

Where South Goa loses out on parties and night culture, it makes up for in premium restaurants and hotels. Colva is close to some leading hotel chains and properties. Post October, tourists flock to this part of Goa to visit the famous Colva Church. A lot of locals participate in the festivities and this is by far the best time to visit Colva beach.

From Colva, tourists also frequent the Cabo De Rama Fort which interestingly so is a pre-Portuguese era fort and one of the oldest in Goa. Colva beach can be accessed by cab or a hired bike or car. It is around 40 km from the city centre and cab drivers are well aware of its whereabouts. Colva Beach is also close to the Margaon Railway Station.

How to Reach Colva

  • By Road
Goa can be accessed from Mumbai via the famous Mumbai Goa highway or National Highway 17 which links Mumbai straight to Goa. Off late though, this route has fallen into disrepute on accord of there just being 2 lanes all along, one up and one down which not only is a little dangerous but also makes for a longer journey. The more convenient route is to head to Pune from Mumbai via the 8 lane expressway and then connect up to the Satara highway right till one gets to Sawantwadi on the far end of Maharashtra. Goa is just another few minutes from there. From Mumbai, Pune and other cities in Maharashtra, numerous bus services are available to Goa and very comfortable ones at that. The recommended kind to take is any service operating a low floor Volvo semi sleeper.

Dabolim Airport in South Goa is well connected to metropolitans like Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore. Cabs to and from the airport are readily available. Dabolim isnt an international or customs airport, so travellers coming in from outside India will have to transit via one of the international airports like Mumbai or Delhi.
