    Chaul Kadu Lighthouse

    The Chaul Kadu Lighthouse is situated close to the Korlai Port, and can be reached by a machine boat. The journey takes about 1 to 1.5 h. In the 17th Century, the lighthouse served as a landmark to enter the fort of Revdanda.

    It is about 6 km away. The Chaul Kadu reefs that surround the lighthouse are beautiful to watch, but a lot of submerged rocks lie there. For the sake of sailing, the lighthouse, marking a radius was constructed. Back in the 1860s, a refuge chamber was created near the reef.

  • 02Korlai Fort

    The Korlai Fort is famously known as the Morro or Castle Curlew. It was constructed by the Portuguese in the town of Korlai, on the island of Morro de Chaul, that is the village of Chaul, in 1521 – almost 500 years back.

    The fort resembles the Chaul fort and is strategically built from Korlai to Bassein to defend their rule. It was built to guard the route to the Revdanda Creek. The fort is famed to be one of the best forts in the entire world and accomodated close to 7000 horses and an equal number of men in its heyday.

  • 03Revdanda

    Revdanda

    Revdanda is about 4 km away from the village of Chaul, situated near Alibaug. It is a site of historical importance. It resembles the period of Shivaji’s reign though it doesn’t belong to that era. The region is lined with betel nut and coconut trees.

    It is locally called Naralachi Baag in Marathi. A special aromatic flower that goes by the name of Bakuli is also found here. The Revdanda Beach here is isolated and beautiful. It is covered in black sand and is a great place to unwind.

  • 04Datta Mandir

    The Datta Mandir is situated in Revdanda. It was built in dedication to Lord Dattatreya and is generally worshipped by the Maharashtrian community. The temple is believed to have been built in Shivaji Maharaj’s reign for the purpose of keeping an eye on the enemy.

    The period of Lord Dutta’s birthday is celebrated here with much aplomb over five days. The local students are given an off during this time. The temple is located at the top of a peak and is reached by climbing around 1500 stairs. From atop, the entire region of Chaul and the accompanying Revdanda is visible.
