Bokaro is a district belonging to the state of Jharkhand which was formed in the year 1991. With an altitude of 210 m from the seas level, Bokaro is located on the Chhotanagpur Plateau. The city is mainly comprised of valleys and streams. Bokaro can be called as one of the highly industrialized zones in India.

Bokaro has a population of about 2 million people, according to the 2011 census. The most prominent aspect of Bokaro is its Steel Plant, the biggest one in the whole of Asia.

Apart from being a well-known tourist destination, Bokaro is also a centre for a number of major companies such as the Steel Authority of India, Bharat Refractories Limited, Hindustan Steelworks Construction, Damodar Valley Corporation and so on. Additionally, Bokaro offers quality education to its people.

For the visitors to have a treat, Bokaro has many interesting tourist attractions, the most important one being the Bokaro Steel Plant, which is a renowned industrial setup.

In addition, some of the other places at Bokaro are Garga Dam - a picturesque picnic spot which also provides water to Bokaro’s industries, Bokaro Ispat Pustakalaya - a peaceful library, Jawaharlal Nehru Biological Park, Pupunki Ashram, Chas, City Center - a busy market area, Ram Mandir, City Park, Bokaro Thermal Power Station and so on.

Situated in the picture-perfect atmosphere of the southern banks of river Damodar, Bokaro city has the Parasnath Hills, the river Garga and the nearby Satanpur Hillocks. The city experiences extreme climatic conditions which vary from about 2°C in winter to about 45°C during the summers.

The travellers must keep in mind that the cooler weather in Bokaro would be from October to February and from March to May, it is usually hot, while the rainy season at Bokaro ranges from June to September.

How To Reach Bokaro

As the city of Bokaro is well-connected to major parts of the country, it is easier for the tourists to get there. Kolkata, Durg, Coimbatore, New Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Lucknow, Guwahati, Amritsar, Patna, Varanasi, VisakhaPatnam, etc. are some of the important places that are connected to Bokaro through trains.

The main railway station is at a mere 12 km distance from the city and most of the mail/express trains frequent here. Visitors can also reach Bokaro via buses. Naya More is the main bus terminal of Bokaro, the other two being, Basanti More in sector 9 and the Dharmshala More at Chas.
