    Ambadevi Temple

    The Ambadevi Temple is devoted to Goddess Ambadevi and is located in the heart of the city of Amravati at Gandhi Square. This ancient, spiritual temple finds its mention in ancient gazetteers and it is believed that Rukmini, daughter of King Bhishmak's, a day before her marriage to Shishupal, visited this temple. Lord Krishna is said to have abducted her from here and married her thereafter.

    Goddess Amba attracts innumerable devotees from all over the state who throng the temple during the festivals of Navratri and Dussehra. Along with the festive celebrations, a huge fair is organised on the temple grounds.

  • 02Gavilgarh Fort

    Gavilgarh Fort dates back to almost 300 years. Situated near Chikhaldara in Amravati, the fort is situated at a height of 1103 m and lies 30 km north to the old capital of Berar, Achalpur.

    The fort derives its name from the Gavalis. Ahmad Shah Wali constructed the fort in 1425. It was later reconstructed by Fateh-ullah Imad-ul-Mulk.

    Gavilgarh has been constructed at two levels, with the outer fort lower than the inner fort. The iconic Delhi Darwaza separates the two forts. It consists of a mosque which has a Pathan style of architecture. Eight of the two tanks found there are still in working condition. One can see intricate carvings of bulls, lions, elephants and tigers apart from the Urdu, Hindi and Arabic scripts on the walls of this fort.

    Chatri Talao

    Chatri Talao is a reservoir that supplies drinking water to Amravati’s locals. Built in 1888, this talao was built on a small spring called Kali Nadi and is situated 1 km away from Dastur Nagar Square on the Malkhed Railway Road.

    Presently, however, the residents of the city get their water from the Upper Wardha Dam. This talao is visited by tourists in large number due to the small garden and boating facility available at the site.

    Wadali Talao is located on Chandur Railway Road. One of the popular reservoirs in the vicinity of Amravati, it was built to supply fresh and clean water in the city.

    Shri Ek Vira Devi Temple

    Shri Ek Vira Devi Temple is located near the Shri Ambadevi Temple, in Amravati city. Built in 1960, the temple is believed to have been built by the son of the noteworthy Amravati Paramhans Shri Janardan Swami. It is also believed that the shrine of the goddess present in the temple is an incarnation of Shakti.

    The temple is popular amongst tourists and pilgrims alike. In order to reach the temple, visitors can take taxis, buses, tongas and autorickshaws available in the destination.
