Kadam Dam, popularly known as the ‘Kadam Project’ has been built over the Kaddam River, which is a tributary of River Godavary, and is situated within the Adilabad district. The dam lies very close to the town of Adilabad and is famously known as the Godavari North Canal Project.

The construction of the dam was begun during the year 1949, and it was completed in 1965. The dam was built with the purpose of providing water for irrigating 25000 hectares of land in the district of Adilabad.

Today, the dam is one of the main tourist attractions around Adilabad. The dam is built at an interesting juncture, where the River Godavary becomes one with River Krishna. The place is a popular picnic spot since it is located in the lap of nature and offers green trees, sprawling well-manicured lawns and fresh air to the visitors.

The meter-gauge train that runs between Secunderabad and Manmad also takes you to the site of the dam.

The Mahatma Gandhi Park in Adilabad attracts plenty of the local population as well as tourists all the year through. The park is a famous place among people looking for some rest and quiet. The temple is one of the oldest temples in the country that enshrines Goddess Saraswati. According to Hindu mythology, the temple is constructed on the site where Rishi Ved Vyas performed his penance.

The Rishi made idols of three Goddesses namely Saraswati, Lakshmi and Kali. He made the idols using sand. The temple was constructed by the Chalukya Kings to honor the Goddess Saraswati.

Today, the festivals of Panchami and Navaratri are celebrated on a large scale at the temple. The famous ritual of Akshara Gnana is also performed at the temple. The ritual denotes the start of formal education in a child’s life and is a very important Hindu ritual.

The Sadarmatt Anicut is the known oldest ‘anicut’ in the state of Andhra Pradesh. It is believed that the anicut was built in the years 1891-92. This oldest known anicut was constructed over the Godavari River for the purpose of irrigating crops of the Kaddam and Khanapur mandals that lie in the Adilabad district.

The Sadaramatt Anicut Dam is located at a distance of about 50 km from the Sriramsagar reservoir. In fact, plans are now on to combine the anicut with the Sriramsagar Project. This is being done primarily to supply water for irrigation to as many farmers as possible through the state of Andhra Pradesh.

The anicut is a popular tourist destination mainly because of its natural surroundings. The dam has been built at an idyllic location amidst green grasslands and sparkling clear waters.
