Top 5 List of Don'ts to Follow When Crossing the Bandipur Forest Reserve

By Brunda Nagaraj

Summer this year in Bangalore has been chasing away its residents to explore new places and I guess that's a boon, to a lot of travel enthusiasts. Places like Bandipur, Wayanad, Ooty, Gundlupet are the ones that summon us from the scorching heat.

Zooming away from the city and into the woods and the thick forest of Bandipur, letting ourselves loose to enjoy the vacation is an amazing feel. Well, in the binge of being a great traveller we should not forget the thin line of being a wildlife enthusiast and a wildlife invader.

#1. Come on let's take a selfie with the herd of elephants.

Getting thrilled at the sight of a cute giant family of elephants is truly exciting but, stopping by vehicles to click a selfie with them may really not be as cool as it may sound. Stop by, to enjoy the amazing visual treat of nature and move on to spot something more unexpected.

#2. It's vacation time, let's hit the roof with loud music.

Music while travelling brings in a lot of energy but the surroundings may not be in favor with it. Disturbance of any sort is an annoyance, let's wait for a while and think; what's cool? The loud music disturbing the atmosphere or the serene view of the nature? Blend with the surroundings instead of standing out or away from it.

#3. Time to get a smoke.

Bad idea, isn't it?, specially during Summer, when the whole forest craves for a rainfall let's avoid the "Red Flower" as we get to hear in the famous "Jungle Book".

#4. Let's camp in the middle of the Jungle.

Under the beautiful starlit sky with the melody of crickets and the wind whispering through the trees, camping in the middle of a forest sounds real cool and adventurous but it is definitely not safe for both the parties. Rules are meant to be broken but not at every place, certainly not when we are with the "NATURE" - A complete NO-NO.

#5. Come, let's feed them.
Hey, there! Want to munch on some biscuits or potato wafers? Come Over! I have got them loaded.

'The hands that serve are holier than lips that pray' may not be applicable when it comes to our wildlife friends. Feeding the animals, on the way may harm them; they may not be used to the food we eat. Let's live and let live. Do not bring existence to extinct.
