By air: Satna Airport caters to domestic flights from major cities in the country including Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi and many more. The other nearby airports include Khajuraho Airport, which is about 114 km from Satna. Jabalpur Airport is another alternative that is about 200 km away.

By train: The nearest railway stations to Satna include Satna Railway Station, Maihar Station (37 km from Satna), Manikpur Junction (60 km from Satna) and Khajuraho railway station. There are regular trains to Satna Railway Station from many cities.

By road: National Highway 7 connects Satna to several parts of India. The state highway passing through Chhatarpur-Rewa connects the region to other places in Madhya Pradesh.

In winter the weather in Satna is pleasant, cool and comfortable. Hence, it is perfect for sightseeing and other outdoor activities. The temperature does not go beyond 26°C in winter. Anytime between October to March would be apt to visit the place. However, summer months in Satna are hot and humid and hence it is best avoided. May to September is the monsoon season, when Satna experiences heavy rains.

1. Rewa Fort

Located about 60 km from Satna, Rewa Fort takes you to the glorious past of the bygone era. The construction of the fort was first initiated by Salim Shan and then the structure was completed by the Rewa King, Maharaja Vikramaditya. This finest fort is a heritage of India that also provides accommodation to tourists which gives an opportunity to experience the royalty and grandeur of the place. The fort also houses a museum where you can witness the valuable possessions of royalty.

This stupa was installed around 100 BC by Ashoka and later on improvised by the rulers of Sunga Dynasty. The site was first discovered in 1873 by Alexander Cunningham. Some of the remnants of the stupa are preserved in the Indian Museum in Kolkata. The railings of the stupa have beautiful carvings that have decorative themes, narrative scenes and various figures.

Situated nearly 114 km from Satna is the famous Khajuraho Temples. This World Heritage Site is a personification of history, heritage, architecture, love and passion. Considered as one of the marvels of ancient India, these temples were built by the Chandela Dynasty Rulers from 950 AD - 1050 AD.

The 85 Jain and Hindu temples are made of sandstone and all the temples are intricately carved, decorated and embellished with splendid art and sculpture. About 10 per cent of the carvings constitute erotic art, which is one of the allures of these mystical temples. Hiring a cab from Satna would be the cheapest and fastest way to reach Khajuraho.
