Among the lesser known retreats in Assam is the town of Tinsukia. The town though a major commercial hub is still surrounded in the arms of nature. It is the second largest city in Assam which was earlier known as Bangmara.
Tinsukia is an ideal getaway for those who want to escape from the madness of the city. Although there is not much you can do here, it is a perfect spot to refresh and rejuvenate yourself. Some of the tourist places to visit in Tinsukia include the Shiv Dham and Tilinga Mandir.
Tilinga Mandir
Another tourist place to visit in Tinsukia is the Tilinga Mandir, which again is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The unique feature about this temple is that it has over 1000 bells hung on a banyan tree by the devotees who come here. Tourists come here to marvel this bell tree and also it gives you a spiritual feel when you get to hear all these bells toll together.

Shiv Dham
One of the places to visit in Tinsukia is the Shiv Dham that is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The architecture of this temple is what attracts tourists to the place. The various intricate carvings on the wall along with the beautifully sculptured idols here leave you completely amazed. It is visited by devotees around the year who come to pray to the Lord. During Shivratri there is a major celebration held in the temple premises.

Dibru-Saikhowa National Park
Another place to visit in Tinsukia is the Dibru-Saikhowa National Park which is located 12 km from the town. It is a hub for nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts who come here to capture a glimpse of the animals roming here like White-Winged duck, water buffalo, horses, tigers, and langur.

Bherjan-Borajan-Padumoni Wildlife Sanctuary
The Bherjan-Borajan-Padumoni Wildlife Sanctuary is another tourist place in Tinsukia. This sanctuary is pread across three forests namely Bherjan, Borajan and Padumoni and thus the name. Wildlife enthusiasts come here to see a glimple of animals like Hoolock Gibbon, Capped Langur, Pig-tailed Macaque, Slow Loris, Rhesus Macaque and many more.

How to Reach Tinsukia
By Air: The nearest airport is located in Dibrugarh which is at a distance of 47 km. It is well-connected with Kolkata and Delhi.
By Train: Trains can be taken directly to the town of Tinsukia, as it has railway station. It is well-connected with all major towns of Assam and also with major cities such as Kolkata and Delhi.
By Road: All modes of road transportations are available to reach Tinsukia. Buses and private vehicles are easily available to reach here. The network of transport inside the city is also good.
