Malpe is a beautiful beach town located just six kilometers from the temple town of Udupi. It is a natural port and important fishing area of Karnataka coastline. As it sits on the estuary of the Udyavara River, it is also a breathtakingly beautiful picnic spot.
The main attraction in Malpe is it unique islands that are made of volcanic rocks just off the coastline. Of these, St. Mary's Islands are uniquely shaped sheer rock islands made of columnar basaltic lava, as a result of a volcanic eruption that occurred here eons ago. St. Mary's Island
St.Mary's Island in Karnataka, known more by the name Coconut Island is a small cluster of four islands located off Malpe sea coast in Udupi. The columnar basaltic lava formation is the most unique sight in the islands. The island is one of the twenty-six declared Geological monuments in India.
The Portuguese traveler Vasco Da Gama stopped by this Island before landing in Kappad in Kerala. Travelers can use ferry service to reach this island. Ferry services are available from the Malpe harbor dock. It is a perfect place to head to and enjoy the beauty of nature.

Daria Bahadurgad Fort
The Daria Bahadurgad Island is one of the famous islands in Malpe. Every year thousands of tourists visit this island in Malpe. Although small, the rocky island has many scenic locations.
Daria Bahadurgad Fort is located on this island, and it is believed that Basavappa Naik of Bidanur constructed the fort many decades ago. A very old tile factory and a few famous temples are also near the fort. Tourists coming here can explore this fort and also enjoy the scenic view that it has to offer.
Malpe Beach
The favorite hangout spot of people travelling here is the Malpe beach. It is popular due to the clean environments and the food stalls offering tasty local dishes. Cultural and sports events are held in the beach very often. The number of tourists visiting the beach has also increased with time.
Visitors to the beach can engage in boating, angling, wave riding and fishing. There are many resorts on the beach side too offering accommodation and recreation facilities. The cool breeze, palm trees and small waves make the beach beautiful.

Vadabhandeshwara Temple
The VadabhandeshwaraTemple is known for its rich artistic architecture and is situated on the sea shore of Malpe. It is dedicated to Lord Balram, the brother of Lord Krishna. The temple is also known as Anantheshwara temple. According to the legend, the idol worshipped in this temple was installed by Sri Madhavacharya. Hindu devotees usually visit the temple on the New Moon Day or Mahalaya Amavasya.
How to Reach Malpe
By Air: The Mangalore Airport is the closest airport to Malpe and Mangalore is at a distance of 50 km from Malpe. It is well connected with all the major cities of the country.
By Train: Malpe is connected with the rest of the country through Udupi railway station which is an important station on the Konkan Railway. It is well connected with all the major cities.
By Road: Malpe is connected to the rest of the state through Udupi and consequently through NH17 as Udupi is close to NH 17. Private and government buses are available to travel to Malpe.
