Travel to the Picturesque Town of Courtallam

Courtallam is a township located in the Tirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu and is situated at a height of 167 mt above the sea level on the Western Ghats. It's popular as a spa town as it houses numerous health resorts and clinics. Even the waterfalls here are said to have medicinal properties. The numerous waterfalls and rivers enhance the scenic beauty of the place making it is one of the most popular tourist destinations.

Thenkasi Kasivishuwanathar Temple

The Kasivishuwanathar Temple is located at Thenkasi, and was built in 1455 AD by the then ruler of the region; Parakkirama Pandian. According to beliefs, the king wanted to visit Kasi but could not enter the city as the place was under the rule of Muslim Kings. So the king decided to build a replica of the original temple located in Kasi at his own town. The chief deity here is Kasi Viswanathar.

The Masi Magam festival, Aipasi Wedding festival, Navarathri, Margazhi Thiruvadhirai and Karthikai Rudra Deepam are some of the major festivals celebrated here. Travellers coming here can pay homage at this temple and also enjoy the scenic beauty of the region from here.

Courtallam Falls

Courtallam is famous for its various waterfalls of which few are said to have medicinal properties. The Peraruvi is the main waterfall of the town and falls from a height of 60 mt. Other prominent waterfalls in this town includes the Shenbagadevi falls, Thenaruvi falls, Aintharuvi falls, Pazhathotta Aruvi falls and the Puli Aruvi falls.

Tourists coming here can enjoy the picturesque view of these falls and also take a dip in the cool waters. It is a perfect place to enjoy the beauty of nature and also catch a glimpse of some wildlife.

Kalugumalai

Kalugumalai is a small town that is known for three main temples namely Jaina Abode, Vettuvan Kovil and Kalugasalamoorthy temple. The Jaina Abode is famous for the architecture and the cave temple of Jains. The deity of the hill on which it is located was known as Araimalai Alwar.

The Vettuvan Kovil is an unfinished Hindu temple and the Kalugasalamoorthy temple is dedicated to Lord Murugan. This town is crowded with devotees everyday, who come here to seek the blessings of the gods. Tourists coming here can visit these numerous temples and admire the beautiful architecture.

Kutralanathar Temple

The Kutralanathar temple is one of the most popular temples of the place and is dedicated to Lord Shiva who is known by the name Lord Thirukutralanathar. The temple has various inscriptions of the Chola Kings and the Pandya Kings. It is located amidst rivers and mountains and is preserved by the temple Devasthanam.

Saint Agasthiyar is said to have worshipped in this temple. Close to the temple there is a room dedicated for pictures that is known as the Chitra Sabha housing several carvings of Puranic stories, deities and several significant religious events.

How to Reach Courtallam

By Air: The closest airport to Courtallam is Thoothukudi airport that is at a distance of about 85 km from the town. The airport is connected to Chennai, Coimbatore and Madurai , all of them are well-connected with other major cities of the country.

By Train: The closest railway Tiruneveli railway station and is well-connected to most of the regions of Tamil Nadu.

By Road: Both Government and Private Buses ply regularly to Courtallam from major towns and cities of Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Buses are a cheap and comfortable option to reach the town.
