Bomdila, A Nature Lover's Delight

Bomdila is a small town in Arunachal Pradesh located at a height of 8,000 ft above sea level. With its dense forests and amazing atmosphere it certainly feels like you have stepped into a beautiful dreamland.

Bhalukpong

One of the places to visit in Bomdila is the small and secluded town of Bhalukpong. Located at an elevation of 698 ft above sea level this town provides a scenic view of the region. It also offers recreational activities for its visitors like fish angling and river rafting on the Kameng River which flows here. It is also an ideal spot to go for a picnic with your family.

Eaglenest Wildlife Sanctuary

One of the sightseeing places in Bomdila is the Eaglenest Wildlife Sanctuary, which houses over 454 species of birds namely; Cormorants, Black Stork, Oriental White Ibis, Ducks, Hawks, Nightjars, Vultures, Fairy-Bluebirds, Larks, Flycatchers and Kingfishers. You can also capture glimpses of wild animals like; the Capped Langur, Bengal Tiger, Asian Elephant, Red Panda, Asiatic Black Bear and more here. It is a haven for bird watchers and wildlife enthusiasts.

Gontse Gaden Rabgyel Lling Monastery

Another place to visit in Bomdila is the Gontse Gaden Rabgyel Lling Monastery. It is one of the major centres for Mahayana Buddhism. The monastery has three Gompas of which the Upper Gompa is the main monastery. The Middle Gompa is the quarter for the monks, and the Lower Gompa is where the prayer hall is situated. Tourist coming here will be amazed by the beautiful architecture of this monastery. It is a hub for Buddism, and you will always find devotees and monks here.

Sessa Orchid Sanctuary

The Sessa Orchid Sanctuary is a protected area located in the foothills of the Himalayas. It is a natural habitat for various varieties of Orchids. It is also a place for adventure with activities such as trekking available here. Trekkers have to take prior permission from the Forest Department to go on trekking trips in this route. The beautiful environment and the amazing atmosphere of this place will certainly make you feel special and rejuvenated.

Kameng Elephant Reserve

Another sightseeing place in Bomdila is the Kameng Elephant Reserve, where you can find the Asiatic Elephants. Situated on the foothills of the Himalayas, this reserve is laden with wildlife like Bengal Tiger, Leopard, Clouded Leopard, Red Panda, Musk Deer, Sambhar, Hog Deer, Himalayan Black Bear, Wild Dog, Fishing Cat, Jungle Cat, Sunda Loris, Indian Bison, Fox, Black Giant Squirrel and Capped Langur. It is a major attraction for wildlife enthusiasts who come here to see these majestic beasts in their natural habitat.

How to Reach Bomdila

By Air: The nearest airport is in Tezpur at a distance of 155 km. The airport is well-connected to Kolkata. Tourists can travel to Kolkata and take a connecting flight to reach Bomdila.

By Train: The nearest railway station is Tezpur (155 km) and it has trains connecting to major cities, making it convenient to reach Bomdila by rail.

By Road: Tourists coming to Bomdila will have to avail buses or hire jeeps from Tezpur (155 km) to reach here. There are local buses within Bomdila to help you get around the town.
