Travel to the lively city of Ludhiana

Located on the banks of the Sutlej river is the largest city of Punjab, Ludhiana. The city is broken into two parts namely the 'Old City' and the 'New City'. While the Old City holds some of the remains of the bygone era the New City is absolutely a modern hub. The people of this city call themselves 'Ludhanvis' and are always ready to welcome guests.

It is known for its many tourist attractions that travellers can enjoye. Some of the places to visit in Ludiana include the Maharaja Ranjit Singh War Museum, Gurudwara Maji Sahib, the Nehru Rose Garden and many more. If that does not satisfy you then surely head to the closest dhaba here and gorge on the various mouth-watering dishes that they serve here. Also do not forget to wash down the grub with a big glass of lassi!

Maharaja Ranjit Singh War Museum

Maharaja Ranjit Singh War Museum

One of the places to visit in Ludhiana is the Maharaja Ranjit Singh War Museum, established by the Government of Punjab in the year 1999. The museum was built as a tribute to the many Punjabi soldiers who lost their life at the frontier. A large statue of Maharaja Ranjit Singh welcomes the visitors at the entrance. The museum has a room that showcases the weapons used by the king and other military items. There is also a gallery which has pictures of various soldiers who in the course of battle have lost their life and have been awarded bravery awards like Paramvir Chakra, Mahavir Chakra, and Vir Chakra. Tourists can take a walk through this gallery and pay respects to the soldiers who laid down their life, protecting us.

Gurudwara Manji Sahib

Gurudwara Manji Sahib

Another place to visit in Ludhiana is the Gurudwara Manji Sahib, also known as Gurudwara Alamgir Sahib and is famous as it is here that Guru Gobind Singh stayed before going to Machiwara. It is said that while he stayed here there was shortage of water, to solve the crisis he shot an arrow into the ground where a water spring sprouted. This spring was later made into a tank called Tirsar which means the 'Lake of Arrows'. Tourists coming here can explore the gurudwara and pay their respects to the guru.

Nehru Rose Garden

Nehru Rose Garden

A tourist place in Ludhiana is the Nehru Rose Garden, located at the heart of the city and established in 1967. It is the largest rose garden in Asia and has over 17,000 plants of which nearly 1,600 are varieties of rose. The Annual Rose Festival is held here every year and is visited by thousands of tourists.

Deer Park

Deer Park

The Deer Park in Ludhiana is a great picnic spot, surrounded by greenery. It is also a perfect place to spot animals like spotted deer, sambar, porcupine, black buck and rabbit. Tourists usually come here to enjoy time with their family. Don't be surprised if you find an animal joining you for lunch!

Guru Nanak Stadium

Guru Nanak Stadium

Another place to visit in Ludhiana is the Guru Nanak Stadium that has a seating capacity of 1,500. This stadium is used to host national and international sporting events like the National Games and the Kabbadi World Cup. It is crowded by sports fanatics during ongoing events. Tourists can also visit the statdium when there are no sports event taking place and enjoy the serenity that this place holds.

Tiger Safari

Tiger Safari

Another tourist place to head to in Ludhiana is the Tiger Safari, located off the GT Road. It is a large area of land, said to be inhabitated by tigers, black bucks, rabbits, sambars and peacocks. Tourists can hop onto a jeep and explore the region and see these beasts roaming in their natural habitat. It is a perfect place to head to with your family for an adventure.

How to Reach Ludhiana

How to Reach Ludhiana

By Air: The Sahnewal Airport has regular flight services that connects Ludhiana to New Delhi and other major cities in the country.

By Train: There are numerous trains like Frontier Mail, Jammu Tawi and Shatabdi Express operating on the New Delhi-Amritsar route that halt at Ludhiana. Ludhiana is connected by daily and weekly trains to several Indian cities, including Jammu, Jalandhar, Amritsar, Patiala, Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata.

By Road: Ludhiana is connected to numerous cities of Punjab and nearby states by public and private buses. Located on the Amritsar-Delhi Grand Trunk Road, Ludhiana can easily be reached by buses from major cities like Amritsar, New Delhi and Chandigarh.
