India is the abode of not just one or two mountain ranges, but seven of them. From the lush greenery of the Western Ghats to the snow-capped ranges of the majestic Himalayas, the mountains are truly legendary and are as diverse as the country itself.
Concealed within these mountain ranges are numerous well-known and not-so-known hill stations. The well-known ones are well developed with plenty of places to stay in, eat at and see but on the other hand are the lesser-known ones which are truly haven for adventure seekers. Hill stations are those places which attract the stressed city folks; they are retreats for a perfect detox from the mundane city life.
Hence, here are some hill stations which offer some real detoxification and all you need to do is pack your bags and head to these beauties.
1. Gulmarg
Gulmarg in translation means the meadow of flowers, the place truly is a sparkling valley which is filled with wild flowers which jump into action in the seasons of spring and summer. During winter, the hilly retreat transforms itself into a skiing destination which offers plenty of winter sports that would keep you entertained.
The destination is well known for its golf course and the Gulmarg Biosphere Reserve. One can soothe their eyes by the sight of the daisies, blueberries and a large variety of flora and fauna.

2. Manali
Located in the Kullu Valley, the place is surrounded by pine forests and the Beas river. Manali is credited of being the topmost skiing destination in the country and is a major draw for its winter sports.
Situated in the state of Himachal Pradesh, it is one place which is filled with temples and adventure sports. One can try their hands on mountain skiing, snow biking and much more in the snow-inhabited region. The Hadimba Temple and Manu Temple, apart from the Tibetan Buddhist monasteries and the Vashist Hot Water Spring, are some of the destinations for a spiritual rejuvenation.

3. Tawang
Tawang offers spectacular views of the majestic Himalayas and quite a number of lakes which are about hundred odd km from Guwahati. This lesser-known hilly retreat, which has a very close association to Buddhism as the Tawang monastery, is considered as the birthplace of the 6th Dalai Lama. It also has plenty of trekking paths for those who would love to connect with Mother Nature.

4. Chikhaldara
A hilly retreat which flaunts its foggy cover, Chikhaldara is place which would make your stay a very memorable one. Although it does not have a lot adventurous spots like that of the Himalayan retreats, it has a charm of its own with its lush greenery, lakes and the remains of the Gawilghar Fort.

5. Yelagiri
Another offbeat hill station in South India which truly offers you a rejuvenating experience with its peaceful ambiance and greenery is Yelagiri, a place which has very few sightseeing points; amongst the few the Punganoor Lake and the park adjoining it is are major draws amongst its limited visitors.

6. Shimoga
Shimoga without second thought is one amongst the best hill stations in the Western Ghats but still is not very popular. The place is home to quite a number hilly retreats and the majestic Jog Falls; Sagara Falls, Kodachadri, Agumbe, etc. are some of the main points of interest apart a large collection of temples and other religious and heritage structures.

7. Haflong
Haflong is a hidden gem in the state of Assam, which is filled with lush greenery, waterfalls and many more wonders of Mother Nature. The place is one fine example if you want to experience the best of nature and connect with its scenic beauty and hilly ranges which extend to infinity.

8. Idukki
One amongst the most beautiful districts in Kerala, which is still not explored by many tourists, is Idukki. One would get a hands-on experience of driving through thick forests which are inhabited by wild animals on one side, along with tea and rubber plantations on the other side. It truly gives you a better understanding of why Kerala is known as God's Own Country.
