Colachel is a small coastal town in the Kanyakumari district of Tamil Nadu and is located at a distance of about 23 km from Nagercoil. Even though it is home to numerous historical sites and unspoilt beaches, it remains unexplored throughout the year.

It is known amongst locals for its history and ancient culture. As per records, the region was once the part of the Travancore kingdom and has also been ruled by the Dutch East India Company for a short period of time.

Located within the town is the Colachel Pillar which was erected to commemorate the victory of the Travancore Empire over the Dutch army in the year 1741. This ancient pillar is of great historical significance and is visited by several history lovers every year. The town is also home to numerous churches and temples. By Air: The nearest airport from Colachel is located in Trivandrum at a distance of about 64 km. Once you have reached Trivandrum, you can either hire a direct cab or catch a bus to reach Colachel.

By Rail: Colachel doesn't have a railway station of its own, and hence you can't reach it directly by rail. The nearest railhead from Colachel is located in Eraniel at a distance of about 8 km. From Eraniel, you can take a direct cab or use public transport to reach Colachel.

By Road: Being a significant port town, it is well connected to other cities by road, and hence it is easily accessible.
