Landscape of - Khajuraho
Khajuraho, a small village in Madhya Pradesh, literally meaning the land of Khjaur (date palm), has won international acclaim for its temples with fine architectural qualities and spectacular sculptures. The Khajuraho group of temples has been listed in the UNESCO World Heritage List for their outstanding universal value and human creative genius.
It is assumed that originally there were 85 temples built during the reign of the Chandella rulers. The mention about these temples can be found in the accounts of travellers like Abu Rihan al Baruni and Ibn Batuta.
The temples are remarkable for their splendid sculptures and architectural marvel. Sculptures of gods and goddesses, celestial beings, and human actions can be seen here. The most remarkable of them are, however, the erotic sculptures unique to Khajuraho. Depicting the Tantric love making positions, a collection of such sculptures can be seen in the outside sculptural bands of the temples.
As part of the efforts to make Khajuraho a noted centre of attraction for travellers, the area around the temples has been beautifully landscaped, as seen in the video.
