Nature, too, does not forget to add charm to the temple village of Khjauraho in Madhya Pradesh, which is famous for its sculptures of breathtaking beauty. The chirruping of parrots make the environment more lively.

The temples of Khajuraho are one of the finest medieval monuments of the country. These temples were built by the Chandella rulers between AD 900 and 1130.

The local tradition lists 85 temples in Khajuraho, of which only 25 survive now. These temples are built either of granite or of sandstone. It is also one of the few sites in India where a large number of sculptures can be seen, the themes of which vary from spirituality to eroticism.

The temples of Khajuraho have been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List for their outstanding universal value and human creative genius.
