Rolling Silk thread in Sualkuchi- Assam

Sualkuchi is a village in Assam, a north eastern state in India. It is situated in Kamrup district of Assam and is a hub of silk production. This video shows a boy rolling the silk thread before weaving it.

A majority of the people living in this village is experts in weaving and it is their livelihood. The weaving tradition in this village dates back to the 11th century.

The silk sarees made in this village are very famous around the world. Muga, Pat and Eri are the major high quality silk varieties produced in this village.
