Dashashwamedh Ghat and boat ride - Varanasi
Varanasi, a holy city in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India, is famed for its ghat. In a way, ghats makes the life in Varanasi more lively as these are places to take a holy dip in the sacred river Ganges and also to pursue funeral traditions of Hindus.
But what makes Dashashwamedh Ghat the main ghat in Varanasi, so special is the 'Agni pooja', a daily ritual performed on the banks of river Ganga. A group of priests gather at this ghat daily evening and perform the pooja or ritual lighting various lamps which is really a beautiful sight. Legend says that Lord Brahma, the creator sacrificed ten horses during Dasa Ashwamedha yajna performed at this ghat.
Morning boat ride on the Ganges across the ghats is one of the popular tourist attractions here.
