A deer park in Sarnath where the spiritual teacher Gautama Buddha delivered his first sermon after attaining enlightenment is a sacred destination located around 13 kilometers from Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh state of India. One can also see the Dhamekh Stupa in Sarnath, site where Buddha taught the Four Noble Truths (Dharma) to his first five disciples.

Being a holy destination, believers of Buddhism often visit this place to be in an exceedingly tranquil atmosphere. Located near Sarnath is Singhpur, a village where Shreyansanath, the eleventh Tirthankara of Jainism was born. A temple dedicated to him, is an important pilgrimage site here.

The site is now known by the name name Saranganath that means "Lord of the Deer" and relates to another old Buddhist story in which the Bodhisattva is a deer and offers his life to a king instead of the doe he is planning to kill.
