A town situated in the district of East Champaran, Bihar state of India, Kesraiya or Kesaria is the site of a Buddhist Stupa built by the King Ashoka. Legends say that Buddha, the spiritual teacher who found Buddhism, once stayed in Kesariya (then called Kesaputta).

Discovered in1998 during an excavation by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), the stupa at Kesariya is claimed to be the tallest and the largest Buddhist Stupa in the world. The stupa dates to between 200 AD and 750 AD and may have been associated with the 4th century ruler, Raja Chakravarti.
