Sanjan, Valsad

Sanjan is a little town in Valsad district and an important Parsi settlement in India. The town of Sanjan is said to have been found by Zoroastrian refugees who came down to Gujarat in India when they we compelled to flee Iran.

The present-day Parsis are believed to be the descendents of Zoroastrians. At Sanjan, one can find the Sanjan Memorial Column which was constructed in the year 1917 as a mark of remembrance of the arrival of Parsis (Zoroastrians) in India.

To ascertain proof of the existence of Zoroastrians in Sanjan, excavation works by experts have been on at the town since 2002.
