Vadhu Tulapur Tourism - Twin Villages That Speak History

Tulapur and Vadhu are two small villages located in the Pune District within the state of Maharashtra. Both the villages are seeped deep into India’s history and are associated with the precious last living moments of Shivaji Maharaj’s son – Sambhaji.Tulapur is about 40 km away from Pune, situated to the north east. It is cased at the confluence of the three rivers of Brahma, Bhama and Indrayani. Tulapur was earlier referred to as Nagargaon.Vadhu, on the other hand is the seat of the Samadhi of Sambhaji Maharaj, and his poet friend, Kavi Kalash.

Their Significance

Despite the fact that both these villages are small, both, Tulapur and Vadhu have an equally important role in the historic chapters of the Maratha rule in India.As said earlier, Chhatrapati Sambhaji was killed in Tulapur, while he was cremated in Vadhu. Hence, the cenotaph of Sambhaji – Shivaji’s son – is places in Vadhu. Both the villages resonate of solemnity and is a must see attraction.Apart from the Samadhi, a war monument dating back to 1822 was also constructed here. Called a Ranstambh, it was built in memory of the Maratha warriors who lost their lives in the last battle between the British and the Marathas.
