Pir Matsyendranath is named after the great Shaivite leader Matsyendranath of the Natha sect. The leader is called as Pir by his followers, and the place is highly respected by both the Hindus and Muslims. The place is situated on the banks of the river Shipra.
The place is located near the Bhartihari caves and the Gadkalika temple. One can reach the place with ease as it is situated at a distance of one kilometer from the main city of Ujjain. Antiquities are yielded at this famous site die to excavations, and these antiquities date back to 6th and 7th century B.C.
