The name "Sulthan Bathery" is a melody to ears; the fort in Sulthan Bathery does not exist anymore but a visit to the Jain temple makes it worthwhile which was once Tipu Sultan's armory. Mention of Sulthan Bathery Cannot be missed under any dynasties starting from Gangas, Kadambas, Hoysalas, Vijayanagara kingdom, Wadiyars of Mysore followed by Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan until it was conquered by Britishers. Do not miss to visit this historical site when in Wayanad.

Exploring Edakkal Caves

If you are in Wayanad, do not miss to visit the glorious Edakkal Caves. The history of this cave dates back to Neolithic Period. The magnificent cave has a lot of inscriptions engraved in the language Northern Brahmi, Sanskrit and Tamil Brahmi that speaks about the valor of VishnuVarrma of the Kutumbiya family. As you explore the caves, you will also spot the engravings of human-figures, weapons and wild animals which belong to different ages. As the cool breeze hits your face, the amazing algae covered rocks adds to the ambiance and takes you to a state of trance.You may have to walk about a km or two to reach to the entrance of the cave and there are stairs that lead to main cave on the top. You may feel it tiring initially but, the spectacular view from the top of the cave makes it worthwhile. Edakkal is just about 45 minutes ride from Kalpetta city.

A visit to Banasura Sagar Dam

If you are looking out to have some adventurous time, Banasura Sagar dam is the place. Explore the speed-boating, try the swings that throw you into the air and climb the stairs to get a spectacular view of the entire place. Visiting this place during monsoon is a great experience; there is a small museum set-up that displays coins and stamps. This place is at a distance of 25 km from Kalpetta city and a ride through the beautiful scenery is what you will enjoy the most.
