People only know about famous tourist spots but these lesser known places are equally worth exploring under Kerala tourism. These destinations have all the scope to become some of popular hill stations in South India.
Ranipuram
Ranipuram is a hill station near Panathady in Kasargod. Its forest area is a wildlife habitat, tourists can often spot wild animals here.
This untouched beauty resembles so much of Ooty, hence it is called as the 'Ooty of Kerala'.
There is also a proposal to make it as 'Ranipuran Wildlife Sanctuary', as the region is rich in wildlife.

Thenmala
Thenmala on the banks of river Kallada is known for eco-tourism in Kerala. Then means 'Honey' and Mala means 'Hill';the place is known for producing high quality honey.
Thenmala is around 70km from Thiruvanathapuram and has many tourist places like Thenmala Dam, Palaruvi Falls, musical fountain, Nedumpara (village) and Ponmudi (hill station) is nearby.

Ilaveezhapoonchira
Ilaveezhapoonchira is a lesser known place in Kottayam. One can get a panoramic view of 3 hills Kodayathoormala, Mankunnu and Thoniparain this hill station.
It is one of the ideal tourist places for nature lovers and trekkers in Kerala.

Malakkappara
Malakkappara is an unknown destination in Thrissur. It is full of tea estates and many estates are owned by Tata Tea.
Malakkappara is still gaining popularity as an attraction which comes under Chalakudy-Athirapally tourism.
The tea estates in this hill station has got its name as the ' Tea Garden Hill Station'.

Ponmudi
Ponmudi means the 'Golden Peak', true to its name this hill station is a scenic beauty. Ponmudi is not totally unexplored but not as famous as other hill stations in Kerala.
Tourists can do a string of activities in Ponmudi: trekking, bird watching, wildlife travel and visiting many tourist places around.
Menmutty Falls, Agasthyarkoodam peak, Peppara Wildlife Sanctuary, The Napier Museum, the Kanakakkunnu Palace, etc are some of the main tourist spots here.
