Tatte idlis at Kyathsandra
Missing the hot tatte idlis served at Pavithra Idli Hotel in Kyathsandra is a major blunder when you are on Tumkur highway. It is amazing to see a small restaurant like that being flooded with so many people early in the morning for an amazing doze of coffee and hot, yummy steamed idlis with butter . Do stop by for the lip-smacking food on your way to Madhugiri hills but do not over eat.

Madhugiri trekking
Climbing the second largest monolith which is at an elevation of 3930 ft is no humour; the climb is steep and the trek trial is medium to difficult. The climb is amazing during cold season instead of summers and monsoons. Summers are too hot and monsoon makes the rock slippery and may not be a recommended season to trek. There are three temples dedicated to Lord Venkataramana, Lord Malleshwara and a small temple of Lord Gopalakrishna which now is a ruin stands atop the hillock. The hill has a fort and dates back to 1670 AD and was ruled by Raja Hira Gowda and during the reign of Hyder Ali, the fort has seen a great improvement until it was conquered by Marathas. The place is not yet commercialized hence, it becomes mandatory to carry our own food and beverages.

Kote Anajaneya temple
On your way back from the trek you may visit the Kote Anjaneya Swamy temple in Tumkur and seek blessings from Lord Hanuman. The statue of Lord Hanuman is 75 ft tall and has been consecrated by Sri Vyasaraja, one of the Dwaita philosophy saints and Rajaguru of Vijayanagar kingdom. Visiting an ancient temple will always linger in your memories so, what is the wait for?

Things to carry on your way to Madhugiri trek:

  • Do carry bottles of water
  • Pack some food to satiate your hunger
  • Energy bars
  • A walking stick might help as the climb is steep
  • Comfortable clothes and footwear
