Moteshwar Mahadev Temple is one of the important temples in Uttarakhand which is regarded as one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva is said to be in Kamroop here and the place is mentioned in the Mahabharath as Dakini. Philosophers like Adi Shankaracharya and poets like Kalidas has referred to this reverent place in their works!

Moteshwar Mahadev Temple has the primary deity as Lord Shiva in Kamroop. Other deities worshipped here include Parvati, Kartikeya, Ganesha, Hanuman, Kali and Bhairo. This old temple holds great religious significance and is frequented by pilgrims during various festivals dedicated to Lord Shiva! This is the place where lord Shiva resides in his full face in the form of a Jyotirlingam popularly known as Bhima Shankar.

The Shiva Linga of this temple is quite large and unique, and embracing the whole linga with two hands is humanly impossible! This Linga is believed to rise continuously with time and has reached the second floor till now.

Built around 302 A.D , the temple complex includes a BharavNath temple and a ShivGangaKund in front of which runs river Kosi. There is also a Maa Jagdamba Bhagwati Balsundari temple next to this temple.

Moteshwar Mahadev Temple in Kashipur

The temple is frequented by lots of devotees during different festivals dedicated to Lord Shiva. Shivaratri festival is celebrated here in grand scale! Other grandeur festivals celebrated here include Shravan mela and Chaiti mela.

Timings : The Moteshwar Mahadev temple opens with an aarti at 6am in the morning and is open till 12 noon. Then it closes for lunch, and then reopens at 4pm in the evening till 8pm.

How to reach : Moteshwar Mahadev temple located at Ujjanak in Kashipur is at a distance of about 3 Km from the bus station of Kashipur. Kashipur is well connected to major Indian cities via road and rail.
