Travel to the Holy Town of Pithoragarh

Pithoragarh is known for its temples and forts belonging to the Chand rulers era and is located in the state of Uttarakhand. The town is set in a picturesque valley with cascading waterfalls, breathtaking view of the glaciers and lakes. The holy town is known as the gateway to the Himalayas from the north, as it is a major trekking trails as pilgrims trek through this town to the Kailash, Lake Manasarovar, and Om Parvat.

Some of the places of interest in Pithoragarh are Patal Bhuvaneshwar, Chandak, Dewalthal, Dharchula, Munsiyari and Kali Mandir of Gangolihat. Other attraction include Pithoragarh Fort which is perched atop a hill on the outskirts of the town. The fort was built by the Gorkhas in 1789. Chandak

The serene landscape of Chandak is located at a distance of 8 km from Pithoragarh. The place offer travellers an opportunity to enjoy in adventure activities like hang-gliding. The place also house a shrine named Manu Temple which is also recommended when visiting the place.

Mahakali Temple of Gangolihat

The temple has an aura of mystery and weird charm and during the dark hours of night the spirits are believed to have a free sway outside the temple premises. The temple is dedicated to Kali and about 2 Km from the temple is the Chamunda temple which is believed to be in the centre of an area of wilderness exclusively possessed by spirits and demons conquered by the Goddess in her fierce aspect.

Pithoragarh Fort

Pithoragarh Fort is a major tourist attraction, which is located close to the Pithoragarh Town. Travellers can enjoy beautiful views of the Kali river here. Going back to history, this fort was constructed by the Gorkhas in the year 1789, after invading the town.

By Air: Pantnagar domestic Airport in Udham Singh Nagar district of Uttarakhand is the nearest airport to Pithoragarh, which is located at a distance of 240 km

By Rail: The Tanakpur Railway Station is the nearest railhead, located at a distance around 150 km from Pithoragarh. Taxis are available from this railway station to Pithoragarh.
