We cannot deny the fact that the first thing we look into a new calendar is the list of holidays and the long weekends that we'd get in the year. Weekends are two days which every individual looks forward to, the two-day break is a much needed one for many who work in immense pressure, to getaway with all the stress and worries of ones workplace.

And if there is a long weekend approaching, the happiness doubles up and one will start looking out for places nearby the cities to head out for the weekend and be back all rejuvenated to face the remaining days of the week.

As many of you might be aware that the month of April ends with a long weekend; if you are looking out for places to head out to over this long weekend, we've listed out to you a few places that lie at a very close proximity to most of the metropolitan cities.

1. Lansdowne For Those In Delhi

If you are peace-seeking person, well then this destination is made for you. An alluring little town, Lansdowne is well known for its peaceful atmosphere. Located at a distance of 250 km from the capital city of Delhi, one could take a walk through the oak and pine woods or head for a trek in the peaks and also catch some beautiful birds.

The Bhulla Lake, St Mary's Church and the Tip N Top Resort are some of the must-visit places here.

2. Auli For Those In Uttarakhand

Auli is known for its natural beauty and the ski resorts. Encircled by the mighty Himalayas, this hill town boasts of its charming oak-filled slopes and also its dense coniferous forests. Though the place is located in a remote area of the Garhwal Himalayas, it surely has a very good network of roads.

Auli is at a distance of 13 kilometers from Joshimath, which is a very popular pilgrimage spot.

3. Tarkarli For Those In Maharashtra

One amongst the list of picturesque places in the country and an extremely popular destination for those in Maharashtra is Tarkarli. The place gained fame because of its white sandy beaches and virgin waters. If you happen to be there on a clear day, then you will get the golden opportunity to catch the bed of the ocean.

The wide river along with the small islands and sailboats on the riverbank adds on to the beauty of Tarkarli and one of the best parts about this is one can easily spot dolphins very frequently.

4. Puri For Those In Kolkata

Puri, without any second thought, is the most famous beach in the East Coast of India, and is also the most preferred escapade from the city of joy - Kolkata. The beach spreads across over 15 kilometers and resembles a conch shell.

The drive from Kolkata to Puri is a relatively longer one, which would take you almost 12 hours to reach the destination. Visit the Konark Sun temple, Jagannath temple, Dolphin point, Chilika Lake and Udayagiri when in Puri.

5. Pondicherry For Those In Chennai

A drive of 2.5 hours through the scenic East Coast Road or ECR from Chennai leads you to Pondicherry. Fondly called Pondi, the town offers you cheap places to stay, eat and drink. Pondicherry is a must visit for those who are looking out for some peace. It is also a place for the history buffs.

The beaches here, the Aurobindo Ashram, Auroville and a stroll through the French quarter would complete your holiday.

6. Ooty For Those In Bengaluru

A drive of 5 to 6 hours from the Garden City would take you to the small hill station of Ooty, which is considered as the 'Queen of Hill Stations'.

Drive through the dense forest of Bandipur and Masinagudi, where one could catch glimpses of wildlife that has made these forests its home, and reach Ooty in about 5-6 hours from Bengaluru.

The drive to reach Ooty also has about 32 hairpin bends, with some amazing sights around, which would truly make it a perfect and ideal holiday.
