A Mystifying Road Trip From Chennai to Munnar

Sometimes there will be an itching for adventure but our work schedules don't allow us for long breaks. So it's better to find places which are interesting and can be covered on weekends. This road trip from the city of Chennai to the evergreen Munnar is all about rejoicing a weekend!

The best route to take is Chennai-Trichy-Dindigul-Udumalai-Munnar. The total distance is 620km and it takes around 11 hours at a stretch. The city of Chennai is the starting point which takes you through many places in Tamil Nadu and finally to reach the beautiful Munnar.

Route: Chennai to Viluppuram - 174km

Begin your awesome journey from Chennai. Start at morning 5 am, head towards Viluppuram. Take NH45 or Tirchy - Chennai Highway route towards Viluppuram.

Route: Viluppuram to Trichy - 165km

Viluppuram is the largest district in Tamil Nadu. You can make a small stop here and proceed towards Trichy. Take the NH45 to reach Trichy.

Route: Trichy to Dindigul - 104km

Halt for the day here in the Trichy. Take rest and visit a few attractions if you feel up for it.

Next day start early towards Dindigul.

Route: Palani to Udumalai - 40km

Palani is famous for the Murugan Temple. If you have time visit the Palani Murugan Temple. Otherwise, drive towards Udumalaipettai via NH 209.

Route: Udumalaipettai to Munnar - 90km

Engulfed by the Western Ghats, Udumalai or Udumalpet is a scenic place. The town of Udumalai is also called as Udumalpettai. Further, the route is ghat section with many hairpin bends. Be careful while driving in this stretch.

Your next and final destination is Munnar.

You should be able to reach Munnar by the afternoon on the second day of the trip. Enjoy and visit all the prime tourist places in Munnar.

On the 3rd day, leave Munnar by 4 pmand drive back in the same route. Make sure you cross the ghat section before it gets dark.
