RR Nagar is one of the famous localities in South Bengaluru; various religious places, educational institutions and Tech Park make it a hub in itself. In fact, this locality derives its name from Rajarajeshwari Temple built by Kailas Ashrama Samsthanam.

Over the years, Sri Rajarajeshwari Temple has gained popularity as one of the beautiful temples in Bengaluru (Bangalore).

History of Rajarajeshwari Temple

Kailash Ashram was built on the banks of river Vrishabhavati. Later, Sri Tiruchi Swamigal (the seer) decided to construct a shrine for the divine mother, Rajarajeshwari. Now, this beautiful shrine is also known as Jnanakshi Rajarajeshwari Temple in Bengaluru.

Unfortunately, river Vrishabhavati is just a big sewage outlet which flows near Mysore road. It is no more a serene river which cascaded the city. The remote village developed as Rajarajeshwari Nagar near to Mysore Road/ Kengeri.

Rajarajeshwari Temple Premises

The tall gopuras of Rajarajeshwari Temple allure us from a distance. The entrance and the tall gopurams zoom in as we go closer to the temple.

As we enter the temple, you can see a small lotus-shaped well. During peak days, the temple will be overcrowded, it becomes hard to explore. So, it is better to visit during regular days to have a peaceful time in the shrine.

Walking further, we can see another entrance gopura with lions on either side. Naga Devatas (statues of serpent gods) seek your attention just after crossing the small gopura. On peak days, there will be a long queue to reach the sanctum. On the other days, we can easily walk towards the main temple.

Artistically carved temple pillars, lion sculpture facing the Goddess (Rajarajeshwari's vahana) , big temple premises can be seen while entering the main shrine. The big doors of the sanctum call for your attention as you turn to go inside. In the middle of the sanctum, sits the Goddess Rajarajeshwara glowing with er elegant ornaments and a beautiful smile.

So, after darshan of the divine mother, one can go around this serene temple complex. New constructions are being made in the temple complex.

Facilities Inside Rajarajeshwari Temple

  • Footwear Stand is available
  • Water taps are located adjacent to the footwear stand.
  • There is a prasad shop along with another shop inside the temple.
  • Free parking space (outside the temple) is available for the devotees.
  • A bookstore is there right next to the entrance.

Tourist Attractions Near Rajarajeshwari Temple

There are many places to visit in and around RR Nagar along with Rajarajeshwari Temple.

Omkar Hills is one of the major attractions in RR Nagar. It is also one of the famous Shiva Temples in Bengaluru.

Shringagiri Shanmukha Temple on top of a small hill is very near to Rajarajeshwari Temple. Don't miss out on visiting this enchanting shrine in RR Nagar.

Nimishamba Temple with Kerala style of architecture is yet another goddess temple situated about 2km from Rajarajeshwari Temple.

Sun Pub and Shakti Hill Resorts are also located in RR Nagar. These are the tourist places near Rajarajeshwari Temple.

There is also a Ganesha Temple opposite to BEML Layout Complex in Rajarajeshwari Nagar.

Other Attractions in RR Nagar

RR Nagar is a well-developed area with hotels like Adigas, 1947, Annapoorna Veg. Other than that there are fast food joints like Food Court, Dominos Pizza, Coffee Day, Kanti Sweets and Hatti Kapi.

How To Reach Rajarajeshwari Temple

Rajarajeshwari Temple is near Gopalan Arcade Mall, Mysore Road.

  • By Bus: BC-6 bus goes till the temple. Other buses which go to BEML 5th stage can be taken from Rajarajeshwari Arch.
  • By Train: Nayandalli Railway Station is near to RR Nagar.
  • Rajarajeshwari Temple is very near to Gopalan Arcade Mall and is walkable. However, you can go by autos or personal vehicles.
