In the southern part of Tripura lies a small hamlet of Udaipur which is not known among many travellers. This town which shares its name with the desert city in Rajasthan has unfortunately lost its prominence with the passage of time.

Travellers wondering about the place should know that it still holds a few ruins of the Manikya Dynasty that ruled the place and those coming here can explore the ruins and wonder at the rich culture and heritage. Tripura Sundari Temple

A tourist place in Udaipur - Tripura is the Tripura Sundari Temple, dedicated to Goddess Kali. It is also one of the 51 'Shakti Peethas' as it is believed that the right foot of Sati fell here. It is crowded by devotees who come here to seek the protection of the gods and pay respects to Goddess Sati.

Bhuvaneswari Temple

One of the places to visit in Udaipur - Tripura is the Bhuvaneswari Temple, dedicated to Goddess Bhuvaneswari. This temple gained prominence thanks to the novel 'Rajarshi' and drama 'Bisharjan', scripted by the Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore. The temple was constructed by Maharaja Govinda Manikya who was a ruler in this region. Devotees come to this temple to pray to the goddess and seek her blessings.

Kalyan Sagar

Another place to visit in Udaipur -Tripura is the Kalyan Sagar, a large lake situated close to the Tripura Sundari Temple. This man made lake has many varieties of fish that can be seen here. It also houses few rare species of tortoises. Devotees and tourists coming here are strictly prohibited from fishing in these waters. You can however feed the fishes, an activity that proves to be quite entertaining!

Nazrul Granthagar

Another tourist place in Udaipur - Tripura is the Nazrul Granthagar, a renowned library here. It is a storehouse of all kinds of books ranging across various topics, including; educational, spiritual, religious and more. Many of the books here are said to have belonged to the Manikya Dynasty as well. The library is visited by students, scholars and historians. Tourists coming here can read up about the history and local culture of the place.

How to Reach Udaipur-Tripura

By Air: Udaipur doesn't have an airport. The nearest airport to Udaipur is in Agartala (53 km). It is connected to Kolkata and Delhi.

By Train: The nearest railway station to Udaipur is in Agartala. Tourists can reach Guwahati and board an inter-city to reach Lumding or Silchar and take another train to reach Agartala.

By Road: The national highways are the lifeline to the tourist destination of Udaipur. NH-44 which runs across the length and breadth of Tripura connects Agartala to Udaipur. Since Udaipur is a must-visit destination in Agartala, there are various kinds of transport facilities that are readily available.
