The Land of Forests, Tamenglong

Tamenglong is one of the lesser known escapades in Manipur that is surrounded by hills. The region is home to a variety of Orchids, dense forests and wildlife. It is a perfect getaway from the madness of the city. Tourists come here to relax and rejuvenate themselves in the arms of nature.

There is not much you can do here, but the beauty of this place itself attracts tourists in large numbers. The beautiful lakes, the glimmering river, the wide open spaces make it feel like you are in a wonderful dream. Some of the places to visit in Tamneglong include River Barak, Tharon Cave, Zeilad Lake and many more.

Zeilad Lake

An exciting place to visit in Tamenglong is the Zeilad Lake, which is located on a high platform upon a hill. It is teeming with wildlife including; python, fish, tortoise and many water birds. This picturesque region also has a wide scope for adventure. Tourists coming here are mesmerised by the beauty of this place and head out to explore the unseen regions.

River Barak

One of the places to visit in Tamenglong is River Barak and its accompanying waterfall. The river is a major source of irrigation and water in this region. It is a picturesque spot which attracts tourists in large numbers. The greenish blue waters, the gurgling sound of the flowing river and the pleasant breeze here makes it an ideal place to go for a picnic with your family. You can also try your hand at water sports like rafting.

Buning Meadow

A tourist place in Tamenglong is the Buning Meadow, which is locally known as N-piulong. It is a stretch of small uneven mounts with a beautiful array of Orchids growing here. It is a haven for nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts as they get to see animals like Hoolock, Gibbons and foxes here. It is a scenic place and much liked by tourists as there is plenty of open space where they can laze around and marvel at the beauty of nature all around them.

Tharon cave

The Tharon Cave or Thaeuluan Cave as it is locally called is a long set of caves which covers a distance of 655.6 mt. It is a set of 34 caves that are believed to have belonged to the Hobinian culture. Adventure addicts can set out to explore these caves and see the many inscriptions and drawings that are etched onto the cave walls. You can purchase a map to these caves or just simply set out to explore them on your own.

How to Reach Tamenglong

By Air: The Imphal Airport is the nearest airhead to Tamenglong, located at a distance of 158 km. It is well-connected to the rest of the country.

By Train: The nearest railway station is at Dimapur at a distance of 215 km. It is well-connected with the major cities of the country.

By Road: NH-3 and NH-39 connect Manipur to the rest of the country. To reach Tamenglong, tourists will need to travel on NH-53 via the Old Cachar Road and the Tamenglong Khongsang Road. The state highways also reach Tamenglong from Imphal and are served by the state transport buses.
