10 Destinations to Travel to in North India this December

Gurgaon

Gurgaon

Gurgaon is the largest city of Haryana and is considered as the financial and industrial capital of the region. The city is located around 30 km south of Delhi and is considered as one of Delhi's four major satellite cities. It was initially a small farming village located southwest of Delhi, but now the city has witnessed a huge increase in its population and economy. There are over 80 malls in the city, notable amongst them are the Ambience Mall, considered as the second largest mall in India, City Centre Mall and Plaza Mall. There are also leisure parks, such as Leisure Valley Park and Kingdom of Dreams that attracts many tourists. Other must-see tourist attractions include Appu Ghar, Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary, Pataudi Palace, etc.

Rewari

Rewari

Rewari is a small town in Haryana and history has it that Hemu, the last Hindu emperor of India, was brought up and educated here. His haveli still stands in the Qutabpur area of the city and during his time, the emperor had laid the foundation of a metalwork industry in copper sheets, utensils, and brass manufacture. The main attraction of Rewari is the Rewari Heritage Steam Locomotive Museum. The shed housing the museum was built in 1893 and is the only one in India hosting a few steam engines that have survived the wear and tear of their strenuous journeys. It remained in a state of neglect after steam engines were removed from active service by 1990. However, the shed was reclaimed by the railway authorities to host a heritage museum for steam engines in December, 2002.

Chail

Chail

Nestled at an elevation of 2,226 mt above sea level, Chail is a beautiful hill station located on Sadh Tiba Hill in Himachal Pradesh. Historically, Chail served as the summer capital for the erstwhile King ofPatiala, Maharaja Adhiraj Bhupinder Singh. After his exile fromShimla, Maharaja Bhupinder Singh built the Chail Palace and chose Chail as his capital. TheChail Palace is a standing testimony of the royal heritage of Chail. Another popular tourist attraction here is theChail Wildlife Sanctuarythat offers a rare opportunity to observe the indigenous flora and fauna of the region. Species found in the sanctuary include the Indian muntjac, leopard, crested porcupine, panther, wild boar, goral, sambar, and European red deer.

Kasauli

Kasauli

Kasauli is another popular hill station located in Himachal Pradesh and is situated at an elevation of around 1,800 mt above sea level. This place finds mention in one of the great Indian epics, the Ramayana and according to the mythology, the Hindu God, Hanuman traversed the region while returning with the Sanjeevani Hill. Situated amidst nature, the town is also known for attractions that include theChrist Church, Monkey Point, Kasauli Brewery and the Gurkha Fort.

Budgam

Budgam is the youngest district of Jammu and Kashmir that was carved out of Srinagar in 1979. The district is located at an elevation of 1609.64 mt above sea level and is popular for its natural beauty. In older times, Budgam was a major stopover for the Mughals, while on their way to Kashmir. Some of the popular tourist attractions of the district include Yousmarg, Doodpathri, Tosmaidan, Nilnag, and Mount Tuta Kutti. Yousmarg, consisting of a cluster of meadows, is a popular picnic spot here.

Chaukori

Chaukori

Chaukori is a beautiful hill station, perched at an altitude of 2,010 mt above sea level in the Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand. Situated among the mountain ranges of the western Himalayas, this place is bordered by Tibet in the north and Terai in the south. The spectacular hamlet is covered with green pine, oak, and rhododendron forests. Attractive cornfields and orchards add to the beauty of the place. There are many ancient temples located in Chaukori. The Nagmandir located in the Berinag village is a worth visiting shrine. Tourists can also visitthe Patal Bhuvaneshwar temple dedicated to Lord Shiva that can be reached by a tunnel-shaped cave.

Situated in the Indian state of Punjab, Mohali is a satellite city of Chandigarh. It is officially known as SAS Nagar in the memory of Sahibzada Ajit Singh, the eldest son of Guru Gobind Singh Ji. There is a lot to see for travellers coming here, including; the Sukhna Lake, Rock Garden, Chhatbir Zoo, Sukhna Wildlife Sanctuary, Rose Garden, Bhakra Nangal Dam and many more.

Jalandhar

Jalandhar

Jalandhar, located in the state of Punjab, is an ancient city that has a rich history. It is named after Jalandhara - a demon king, mentioned in the Puranas and the Mahabharata. Jalandhar in Hindi means ‘an area that lies under water', and as per folklore, the city derived this name owing to its geographical location between the two rivers Beas and Sutlej. The city of Jalandhar is home to a number of tourist attractions, including forts, temples and museums. Some of the major attractions here arethe Shiva Mandir,Tulsi Mandir,Devi Talab Mandir, St. Mary's Cathedral, Bhagat Singh Museum and Wonderland Theme Park.

The city's history dates back to the time of the Suryavanshi dynasty. Founded by Nawab Asaf-ud-Daula, Lucknow served as the capital of the Nawabs of Awadh. Indeed, it is the period of the Nawabs that gave the city its courteous culture, not to forget its sumptuous cuisine that is as famous today as it was during that era! There is much that you can see and do in Lucknow. By far, the most famous attraction in the city is theBara Imambara and Bhool Bhulaiya.
