One of the lesser known getaways in Sikkim includes the small town of Jorethang. Situated in the hilly region, this place is known to have a pleasant climate all through the year. The lush green coverings, misty hilltops and tranquillity of this place almost makes you feel like you are in a dream.
Very few tourists travel to this place as it is not a major hub, but those who do come here are literally swept off their feet by the beauty of this serene town. There is not much to wander around or explore here and therefore it is a perfect spot for those looking for a relaxing getaway.
Hot Springs
One of the places to visit in Jorethang are the Hot Springs, which is one of the unique attractions of this place. Tourists come from far and wide to witness these springs. They are rich in sulphur and have therapeutic value and hence are used for medicinal purposes. It is an ideal place to go for a picnic with your family.
Rangeet River

A major tourist place in Jorethang is the Rangeet River which is a tributary of Teesta river. Originating in the Himalayas it is a hot spot for river rafting. Tourists come here to enjoy the scenic view of the region and also indulge in water sports. It is an ideal picnic spot as well.
Maghey Mela

Jorethang is famous for its annual fair that it hosts. The Maghey Mela is celebrated with grandeur and travellers coming here will enjoy it a lot. The celebrations, other than showcasing the customs and traditions of the locals also have many activities that include para gliding, river rafting, archery and more. It is also the place where tourists can taste the authentic dishes of Sikkim.
How to Reach Jorethang
By Air: The nearest helipad to Jorethang is the one at Namchi, at a distance of about 25 km.
By Train: The nearest railway station to Jorethang is the New Jaipaigui (near Siliguri). It is present at a distance of 92 km from Jorethang and connects to Kolkata and Darjeeling.
By Road: Jorethang is situated on the way to Pelling from Darjeeling, Kalimpong and Siliguri and is well-connected by buses, jeeps and private cars.
