Palakkad Fort, also known as Tipu's Fort, is one of the best preserved forts in Kerala. Built by Tipu Sultan's father Hyder Ali, the fort is well maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). The fort is a symbol of Tipu's courage and bravery, and thus was called Tipu's Fort, after he lost his life in a battle with the British. The fort was also the military head quarter of Hyder Ali. The fort was captured by several invaders during the colonial times.

The fort is built in a square shape. The majestic fort has huge walls and bastions on all four sides, with a bridge to the entrance of the fort, which was earlier a temporary draw bridge.

Attractions Of Palakkad Fort

The grand structure of Palakkad Fort is one of the symbols that talks about several battles that took place between the Indian rulers and the British. A large ground in the centre of the fort was used as a stable for the sheep and cattle that were a part of Tipu's army. Today, this ground is used for sports activities like cricket, and for public meeting and other events.

There is a temple within the fort complex that is dedicated to Lord Hanuman. There is also an open air auditorium named 'Rappadi', a martyr's column and a sub-jail inside the fort complex.

There is also a children's park on one side of the fort; thus, it is a beautiful place for a family trip and for those who would love to explore the architecture of the fort and the history of the region.
