Brace yourselves for an offbeat travel to the interiors of Rajasthan. A journey of 68km will take you to Osian from the city of Jodhpur. An unknown town stands, resounding a past that created it, amidst the Thar Desert.

What was once a buzzing trade centre is now a religious place! The immense contribution of Gupta dynasty can be seen even to this day. It was not just a business centre but a place of Brahmanism and Jainism.

Later, when it was invaded by Muhammad of Gor, many converted to Jainism. Now Osian is one of the prominent Jain religious places in Rajasthan.

Osian is a delight for heritage lovers and history buffs; the main attractions are the shrines of Osians. It is the exotic architecture and design of these temples that devour you. Such luxurious planning of these temples is certainly a strong competition to other temples of the state. The wonderful sculptures depicting various mythological tales grab our attention. Hence, Osian is called as the 'Khajuraho of Rajasthan'.

Jainism became popular only after the beginning of Gurjar Prathihar Dynasty in the region. Among several Jain gods, Osian is famous for the serpent gods of Jainism. The Nagas of Osian have a special importance in Jainism. Thus, this ancient town is a famous Jain pilgrimage center in Rajasthan.

A stroll around Osian is sure to amuse the visitors as each pillar and wall depicts a passion towards the art and architecture of that period. The Sun Temple, Sachiya Mata Temple and Mahavira Temple are some of the prominent temples in Osian.

How to Reach Osian

By Bus: Buses or private vehicles are the best way to reach Osian from Jodhpur. Several government and private buses are there from the city of Jodhpur.

By Train: Jodhpur Railway Station is the nearest railway station.
