"Mayong", the name sounds thrilling to ears and the history of this place makes it all the more fascinating. Legend says that history of this place dates back to epic Mahabharata where magical powers was used by Ghatotkacha - son of Hidimba and Bhima to defeat the Kaurava army. Mayong is a place known for it's witchcraft and black magic. No wonder, it is known as black magic capital of India.

What's in the name?

When you closely observe the name, Mayong - it seems to have been derived from the Sanskrit word "Maya" which means Illusion or Magic but some of them do claim that the name is derived by the Manipuri tribals who were once the descendants of this village and as time passed by, Moirang became Mayong.

How do we get to Mayong ?

You may choose to fly or take a train to Guwahati and Mayong from there is at a distance of 40km through road. Located on the majestic banks of Brahmaputra Mayong is a must see place if you plan your trip to Assam.
