Intriguing Itanagar

Itanagar, capital of Arunachal Pradesh is nestled at the foothills of Himalayas. Itanagar is referred as Mini India as people from every corner of the nation dwell here. Archeological sites rule Itanagar. Tourists come here to visit Ita Fort which is a center of attraction.

Ita Fort

Itanagar is widely renowned for the archeological sites present throughout the capital city. Ita Fort which translates to 'The Fort of Bricks', is one of the most captivating sites of Arunachal Pradesh.Being situated in the heart of the city, the fort is easily accessible from any corner. The fort can be entered from three different sides - western, eastern and southern sides.

Ganga Lake

Ganga lake located in Itanagar is one of the famous tourist attraction of Arunachal Pradesh. It is locally known as Gekar Sinyi or Gaekar Saenyik. The lake has lush green forest around it which mainly comprises of tall trees, orchids and ferns. This serene and calm lake is also encompassed by hard rock. Rocky surroundings has made it a popular picnic spot. Availability of boating facilities, swimming pool and nature walks in the surrounding areas has made it further appealing to the visitors. This tranquil and natural lake is nestled at the foothills of Himalayas and houses bountiful greenery.

Itanagar Wildlife Sanctuary

Itanagar Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the most popular tourist destination and is located in Papum Pare district. Diverse climatic and topographical conditions give way to a variety of flora and fauna. Thickly populated with wildlife, the sanctuary houses Sambar, Elephant herbs, Barking Deer, Beer, Tiger and Panthers. Various birds and orchid species are also found here. One can find the Great Honbill, the state bird of Arunachal Pradesh, here.

Jawaharlal Nehru Mueseum

Jawaharlal Nehru State Museum is situated at Itanagar in Arunachal Pradesh. The museum showcases archeological artefacts apart from clothing, weapons, jewellery, headdress, music instruments and handicraft. An informative library is also present there which helps to broaden one's spectrum of knowledge.

Parks

Itanagar also nestles some of the beautiful parks of the state. They are directed towards recreational purpose and enjoyment for the tourists. Travellers and localites visit these parks in order to relax. Indira Gandhi Park and Polo Park are the popular parks here.

How to Reach

Tezpur and Lilabari in Assam are the nearest airports. One can hop onto a bus and travel to Itanagar from here. Harmuti in Assam is the nearest railway station and is 32 kms away from Itanagar.
