Idukki district has many attractions and it forms a major part of tourism in Kerala. It so happens that popular destinations like Munnar, Thekkady, Vagamon, etc. are the main tourist places in Idukki.

The district is known for its beautiful hill stations, tea estates, national parks, waterfalls, etc. These have become a major part of Kerala tourism.

The bounty of nature provides a lot tourism and people love to visit the hill stations in Idukki. Tourists come here at all times, to enjoy and feel the nature at its best.

The place has so much to offer for different kinds of travellers. Hence, Idukki tourism is most popular in Kerala.

Vagamon

Vagamon

People who visit Vagamon will keep it in their memories for ever. This mystic hill station is also listed as one of the '50 most attractive places to visit in India' by National Geographic Traveller.

Vagamon in the border of Kottayyam - Idukki, is one of the jewels in Idukki tourism. Surrounded by scenic landscapes, there are a number of tourist places in Vagamon.

Murugan Hill, Thangal Hill, Kurisumala Hill, Vagamon Meadows, Dairy Farms and the pine forests are some of the main attractions. And make sure you don't miss paragliding in this enchanting place.

Munnar

Munnar

Munnar forms a major part of Idukki tourism in Kerala. Thousands of travellers visit Munnar year-round.

There are many tourist places which are worth visiting in Munnar: Eravikulam National Park, Mattupetty Dam, Marayoor, Anamudi Peak, etc.

Thekkady

Thekkady

Recently, Thekkady was awarded as 'World's Top Emerging Destination by PATA'. Such a destination should never be missed on your travel to Kerala.

Periyar National Park, Periyar Lake, Mullaperiyar Dam, etc. are some of the prominent places to visit in Thekkady.

Thekkady is around 90km from Munnar and can be easily reached from there. It is a prominent attraction under Idukki tourism in Kerala.

Marayoor

Marayoor

Marayoor is a town which is growing as a tourist place in Idukki. It is famous for Sandalwood forests, rock paintings and dolmens (tombs) belonging to stone age.

Marayoor is around 40km from Munnar and it comes under Munnar tourism.

It is the only place in Kerala which has Sandalwood forests and the Stone Age dolmens and rock paintings are said to be of 10,000 BC.

Thus, it one of the prominent rock art sites in Kerala. Another spot is Chinar Wildlife Sanctuary which also a must visit destination in Marayoor.

Devikulam

Devikulam

Devikulam is yet another place which is a part of Munnar tourism. This small hill station has got its name from Sita Devi Lake.

A legend says, once Goddess Sita of Ramayana epic, bathed in this lake. Hence the place is named after it; Devi means 'Goddess', Kulam means 'Pond'.

Tea estates are the main attractions in Devikulam. So, include it when you travel to Munnar.

Peermade

Peermade

Peermade is a hill station which is around 30km from Thekkady. Earlier a summer retreat of Maharajas of Tranvencore, Peermade is now famous for its pine forests, grasslands and waterfalls.

It is also known for coffee plantations, tea estates and various other spices. The hill station is still developing as popular destination in Kerala.
