Gulmarg is one of the best skiing destinations in Asia. Situated in Pir Panjal Range of Jammu and Kashmir, it has taken many setbacks to improve Gulmarg tourism. This hill station and town is a year-round tourist place. Mainly known for its adventure sports, there are also many places to visit in Gulmarg.

A summer retreat during the colonial era, this hill station was a disputed place as it is near the Pakistan border. Later, the dispute was resolved and it permanently became a part of India. The beauty of Gulmarg attracts people and provides good space for winter sports. The golf courses and the ski club was first started by the British in the early 20th century. Post independence, the ski club was changed into the High Altitude Warfare School.

Gulmarg has developed as a winter sports hub in the recent years. The cable car project from Gulmarg to Apharwat Peak made it one of the longest and highest ropeways in Asia. Srinagar is around 60km to Gulmarg, hence the hill station is easily reachable. World's experienced skier's love to ski here, as it is not very crowded and the slopes are challenging.

The snowfall in winter entirely covers Gulmarg. In other seasons, the hill station looks green and colourful with varieties of flowers. The scenic landscapes allure tourists in all the seasons and that makes it one of the picturesque hill stations in India.
