Places In India Which Look Like Game Of Thrones Locations

Game of Thrones is a series which has taken the world by storm; the series has become a phenomenon which has made it to the level of Lord of the Rings and even scaled up to the level of Harry Potter. The GOT fans are eagerly waiting for the telecast of the new season which is round the corner.

The series is shot in multiple locations across various countries, every place has a character of its own and these places would transport you to an era which is very different from the ones we live in. Well, it is not impossible to head to these places which are spread across the globe. However, an interesting factor is that there are certain places in our country which have a very striking resemblance to the places in the series.

For example, Don't you feel a resemblance between Kashmir and Winterfell, the castle of Starks? Kashmir too, has its own beauty in its greenery and the cold weather. Another such place is the Zanskar Valley, which has a resemblance to the North of the Wall that is known for its freezing climatic conditions, frozen lakes and much more.

1. Zanskar Valley – North Of The Wall

The North of the wall is well-known for its extreme climatic conditions, the Zanskar Valley also shares this aspect with "the wall". The Zanskar Valley resembles a semi desert and lies on the Northern flank of the Himalayan Range. Certain parts of the valley are considered as some of the coldest inhabited places in the world.

The Zanskar Valley separates the Kinnaur District from Spiti in Himachal Pradesh. In the series the Night's Watch, keeps an eye on the surroundings, but in the Zanskar valley the Indian Army keeps an eye on the surroundings.

2. Kashmir – Winterfell

Winterfell, the traditional home of the House of Starks, has beautiful greenery and an equally beautiful cool climate. Kashmir is rather an apt choice for the House of Starks in India, Kashmir is renowned for breathtaking scenic beauty amidst the wonderful climatic conditions.

Like Winterfell, Kashmir too, has its share of hills, valleys and beautiful nature which would truly grab any person's attention and make them want to stay here for the rest of their lives.

3. Jaigarh Fort – Castle Black

The Castle Black is a structure, which is known for its imposing height which protects Winterfell from the Wildings and the White Walkers. The Jaigarh Fort in Jaipur is also known for its imposing height and it was built by Jai Singh II in the year 1726, to protect the Amber fort and its palace complex.

The Jaigarh fort is located atop one of the peaks of the Aravalli range and provides an excellent view of the Aravalli mountain range.

4. Hampi – Valyria

Valyria also known as Old Valyria is a ruined city in Essos. The city was once the capital of the great empire of Valyrian Freehold, but was destroyed in a cataclysmic event. The city is the ancestral home of House Targaryen. Hampi in Karnataka too, has similar story to narrate, the once glorious empire now stands in ruins which are simply marvellous to look at.

Hampi is recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and continues to attract a large number of tourists from across the globe. The place has many attractions like the musical pillars of the Vijaya Vittala temple, the queens bath, Virupaksha temple and much more.

5. Jaisalmer – Dorne

Dorne is one of the seven kingdoms in the series and has a harsh desert climate. Jaisalmer in Rajasthan which has a harsh desert climate but yet is a beautiful land with a large number of forts, and ethnic people who have beliefs which are very different from the rest of the country. The town of Jaisalmer is known as the Golden city and has a very dominating skyline of the Jaisalmer fort.

6. Mumbai – Casterly Rock

Casterly Rock is the ancestral home of the Lannisters, the place is located on rocky peninsula which overlooks the sea. Mumbai the city of dreams is kind of similar to Casterly Rock, The Lannisters have made Casterly rock their home and we have the Ambanis, who have made Mumbai their home.

Mumbai is a city, which faces the vast Arabian sea and has a number of beaches around the city. The whose who of the Bollywood industry too, have made the city their homes along with the common man who has his own set of dreams.

7. Amer Fort – Highgarden

Highgarden is the seat of House of Tyrell and is located on the banks of river Mander. The Amer fort is located in Rajasthan atop a hill and is also one of the major attractions in Jaipur. The Amer fort is an UNESCO World Heritage Site and is part of the hill forts of Rajasthan. Like the Highgarden, the Amer Fort sits on the banks of Maoto lake.

8. Chiktan – Harrenhal

Harrenhal is one of the large castles in the series and is also equally creepy and spooky. Chiktan Khar, which is located far up in the majestic Himalayas was once a majestic beauty but lies in ruins and its appearance would give chills to any person visiting it. The fort was built in the 16th century, but today the fort lies neglected and stories of paranormal activities began doing its rounds.

9. Pondicherry – Atorpos

Atorpos is a city which Khaleesi visits in the second season. Pondicherry is a perfect replica of the city with beaches, especially the Promenade beach with its rock shore. One would easily get transported to the town of Atorpos, while visiting Pondicherry.

10. Havelock Island – Pentos

Pentos, the sea side town, is where Daenerys gets married to Khal Drogo. Well, if Daenerys got married at Pentos, we have an alternative and equally beautiful wedding destination right here in the Havelock Island in the Andaman Islands.

Havelock Island is the largest island which comprises of a chain of islands. The place gets name from the British general, Sir Henry Havelock who served in India.
