History
Earlier, Deeg was the capital of Jat rulers but later it was shifted to Bharatpur. The mesmerizing Deeg Palace served as the residential place of Jat Kings. It was Badan Singh who built the Deeg Palace.However,it was revamped by his son Suraj Mal. The kingdom of Deeg was constantly under threat by the Mughal rulers due to its proximity to Agra. So, the prince Suraj Mal built a large fortress around Deeg Palace to protect it from the invaders.

Deeg Palace is one of the water palaces in India. Yes, Deeg Palace is surrounded by Gopal Sagar Lake. Infact, it was supposed to be moat to protect the palace from the enemies. However, today it is one of the water palaces in Rajasthan.
It is said that some materials used while renovating the palace was brought from Red Fort. After several attempts, Suraj Mal was able attack the Red Fort and it was during this time he robbed many things from the fort. Yes, some parts of Deeg Palace contain the construction materials and other antiques looted from the Red Fort after a battle.
