Legend Behind The Temple
There is an interesting legend associated with the temple. It is said that the ruler (called as Thampuran) of the region was an ardent devotee of Goddess Mookambika and used to go to Kollur Mookambika temple every year, to seek blessings from the Goddess. As his health deteriorated due to old age, he could not visit the temple.
On this, the Goddess is said to have appeared in his dream and instructed to build a shrine near his palace, so that he can have darshan of the Goddess daily. Following this, the Thampuran built a shrine and installed the idol of the Goddess there.
