Karnataka is blessed with beautiful rivers and beaches which extend prospective for many water based sports. Goa, with its huge tourist influx has many water sports as possible, but why travel far to Goa when you can satiate yourself in your own state!

The potential for adventure sports in the coast of Karnataka is huge, much more than Goa, as the districts are blessed with potential for water sports, sea sports (both motorized and non-motorised), aero sports and river sports.

Karwar Island For Water Sports

Karwar Island For Water Sports

With its perfect tropical backdrop, deep waters and swift waves, Karwar is a perfect spot for water sports. Karwar stands out not just for its extensive options for water sports, but also because for the wide sightseeing options. Some of the water sports available at Karwar are snorkelling, scuba diving, banana boat ride, kayaking and water surfing.

Devbagh is a beautiful island about ten nautical miles away from Karwar and here there are some more water sport options like canoeing, white water rafting and coracling.

River rafting at Coorg takes place in North Coorg (Dubare) and South Coorg (Barapole). Mountainous Coorg is one of the sought out places for White Water Rafting, as the gradient offers the best conditions for speedy waters flowing over the rocks, causing a drop in the river known as rapids and, riding through these rapids is what makes rafting an experience to cherish. The monsoon of Coorg during June to September changes the vista of Kodagu with many streams joining into the mighty rivers, and this is the ideal time for rafting.

Dubare is a scenic forest area known for its elephant training camp. The other major attraction of Dubare is the river rafting which takes place in the waters of river Dubare. There are two rafting options: 8.5 km and 12 km run.

Dubare rafting takes you through thick forests with sublime beauty and allows you to enjoy the river more than rafting. It is advisable to book rafting online in advance during peak season of June-September to avoid long waiting times.

Dandeli For Water Sports

Although mainly known for wildlife, Dandeli has an abundance of options in water sports. Kayaking, coracling, zorbing (rolling on the water inside a transparent plastic zorb), river crossing ( ziplining across river), water rafting, rappelling, natural jaccuzi in rapids, canoeing and moonlight boat ride.

Pigeon Island, Murdeshwar For Snorkelling

Pigeon Island is around 20 km away from the town of Murudeshwar. This is a full day activity so snacks, and beverages are provided along with the equipment rental. Enjoy snorkelling for around 8 hours in close proximity to the marine life in the island. Swim along with different species of fishes and witness striking reefs.

Rappelling is aided rock climbing with a rope harness. This 30 minute activity allows you to witness the magical water cascade of Chelavara Waterfalls from close quarters. As you descend down, you can enjoy the beautiful views of the places that enclose the waterfalls. It sure is risky, but then which adventure sport is not?
