Though majority of them are man-made and are constructed with some purpose, the mesmerising and picturesque beauty of these serene lakes cannot be underestimated. Udaipur in Rajasthan is known as the City of Lakes. Other than Udaipur, there are also other places in this state which have become major tourist hubs of Rajasthan tourism. Some of the best lakes in India nestles by the foothills of Aravallis while others enhance the beauty of the palatial forts.

One of the captivating lakes in Rajasthan, Maota Lake is bordered by Amer Fort or Amber Fort in Jaipur. It is situated in Amer Village which is 11km from the Pink city. Jaipur. The Sheesh Mahal of Amer Fort overlooks the bewitching views of Maota Lake. Tourists flock here round the year to get the amazing view of the lake.

It is an important pilgrimage site for Hindus as it is considered that Lord Brahma was the creator of this lake. 52 bathing ghats are clustered with people during Pushkar Fair. More than 500 temples are found around this pious lake. The lake also supports healthy aquatic life.

Jackals and peacocks forms the fauna.

Situated in Jodhpur, this beautiful man-made lake was constructed by Pratap Singh. The water in this lake is supplied by Indira Gandhi Canal. It is also catered to for being the source of drinking water in Jodhpur.

Also known as Jaisamand Lake, Dhebar Lake is the largest man made lake of Asia. Situated in Udaipur, this lake is adjacent to Jaisamand Wildlife Sanctuary. Teak forest clusters by the lake which owes three islands. Bhil Minas is the tribe of people who resides in these islands. The Jaisamand Island Resort is one of the most expensive resorts of Rajasthan which nestles on the biggest island of the lake. Dhebar Lake Marble Dam is an important spot of Rajasthan tourism.

Jal Mahal is one of the most beautiful monuments in India which is situated in the middle of Man Sagar Lake. Traditional wooden boats, particularly Rajput style are found by the clear lake which floats through the water overlooking the gigantic Aravallis with temples and forts. The lake was a paradise for bird watchers as it harboured more than 150 species of birds, whose count is detoriarating with the passage of time.

It is one of the best lakes in Rajasthan and is situated in the north of Lake Pichola in Udaipur. This artificial lake was constructed by Maharana Pratap. 3 islands on the lake serve different purposes. It also harbours variety of flora and fauna. Aquatic life is also quite healthy here. Hariyali Amavasya Mela is one of the celebrations which take place by the vicinity of this lake in the Hindu month of Shravan.
