Nestled beautifully in the Aravallis, Banswara is a picturesque city in Rajasthan which widely represents the rich tribal culture of the state. It is known as the City of Hundred Islands due to the large number of islands in the Mahi river which flows through Banswara. The place gets it name from bans or the huge growth of bamboo forests in the area.

The princely state of Banswara was ruled by the Maharavals. It is believed that a Bhil ruler named Bansia ruled the place and named it as Banswara who later after defeating the incumbent ruler Jagmal Singh became the Maharaval of the princely state.
