A place named Vilankurichi became Ambasamudram because of the temples and water sources. The name is derived from the two words Amba and Samudra. Legend has it that the great sage Agastya lived in Ambasamudram for some time.

Ambasamudram is not just a religious place but also a paradise for nature lovers. On one side it is the Western Ghats and on the other, it is Tamirabharani River that cascades along the town.

The Western Ghats are surely mystical; Kalakkad Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve along with Manjolai Hills are the two famous tourist places near Ambasamudram.

Manjolai Hills is full of Tea Plantations and viewpoints. Hence, it is one of the beautiful destinations near to this town.

Agasthiyar Temple, Karaiyar Dam, Upper Kodaiyar Dam, Baana Theertham Falls and Tamirabharani River are the other attractions around this town.

Ambasamudram is also a great place for bird lovers. The green cover is an abode for many species of birds.

It is around 42 km from Tirunelveli to Ambasamudram.

By Bus: Several buses are available from Tirunelveli to Ambasamudram.

By Train: Tirunelveli is the nearest railway station to this temple town.

By Flight: You have to take a flight to Madurai or Thiruvananthapuram
