Udupi is an ancient temple town in coastal Karnataka, which is popular for its 1500 year old Krishna Mutt, the heavenly cuisine of the region that is spread across the Udupi restaurants in India, and the coastal charm of the town.
The Sri Krishna Temple and Mutt is not to be missed on a trip to Udupi. The temple complex comprises of several temples and monasteries. The main temple here is built with sloping tiled roof, which is an architectural style typical to Kerala and Dakshina Kannada district. The other shrines in the complex include those of Ganesha, Garuda and Hanuman.
Udupi is well connected to all the cities of the west coast of India. Located around 406km from Bengaluru, Udupi railway station is one of the major stations on the Konkan railway route. There are trains that connect to many major cities of India. The nearest airport to Udupi is the Mangalore International Airport which is around 59km away.
